NEW LONDON, Conn. – MT Tshuma, who hails from Zimbabwe, has experienced a myriad of successes through his experiences as a student at Connecticut College and member of the  men's soccer program over the past two years.

On the pitch, Tshuma made a quick impact by scoring his first collegiate goal just 35 seconds into the match in his first career start against Colby on Sept. 23, 2018. He also set up the insurance tally in the team's 2-0 victory over the Mules on that day and has been a staple in the lineup ever since.

Since Tshuma joined the program, the Camels advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2018 and put together their greatest postseason run in school history by advancing to the NCAA Elite 8 last fall. Tshuma scored four goals as a regular starter last season, which was highlighted by his marker in the 92nd minute to lift the Camels to a 1-0 overtime victory over Bowdoin.

"MT is your quintessential quiet leader," said head men's soccer coach Reuben Burk. "Although he doesn't rant and rave in the locker room or rarely gets emotional with his teammates, he nonetheless still carries a powerful presence within the team. He unquestionably garners respect and attention from everyone on the team because of his selflessness."

An outstanding student who majors in environmental studies, Tshuma has been heavily involved with the Connecticut College and local communities since his arrival. He works for campus safety, the academic resource center, and in the athletic center on campus. Furthermore, he has participated in the Walk to End Homelessness, which is organized by the Homeless Hospitality Center and the institution, to increase awareness about homelessness as well as raise support for the organization.

"I am appreciative for the opportunity to be part of an event that has been able to provide shelter for adults in the New London community throughout the years," said Tshuma.

Relay for Life, which collaborates with colleges and communities in the fight against cancer through fundraisers, is another organization Tshuma has volunteered his time with. In addition, Tshuma has been volunteering to teach soccer to local kids at a week-long camp every spring.

"It has been an awesome experience to get to interact with young local talent," added Tshuma.

Burk offered further praise for Tshuma and what he brings to the program.

"After two years, I am convinced there isn't anything he wouldn't do for the well-being of our team and others. MT is a tireless, dedicated, and passionate worker. He is also the glue that holds the team together, and he is effortlessly best friends with everyone because of his selflessness. At the end of the day, everyone wants MT to be very successful because the only thing MT really cares about is the team being successful."
